The Oktoberfest celebration originated in Munich, Germany over 200 years ago when Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig called for a five day festival to celebrate his marriage to Princess Theresa of Saxony-Hildburghausen. This was the beginning of what is today known as the annual Munich Oktoberfest, the world’s largest party attended by over 6-million visitors annually.

Fun Facts About Snowbird Oktoberfest 2024
Snowbird Oktoberfest is the biggest (and best!) beer festival in Utah bringing the local community together and attracting over 60,000 visitors to Little Cottonwood Canyon over the 2-month celebrations. Held annually since 1972, a year after the opening of Snowbird Resort, the Oktoberfest at Snowbird is a true celebration of Bavarian culture with festivities for the whole family! Raise a glass and celebrate Snowbird Resort 51st Oktoberfest Anniversary with us this fall.
Beers & Brats: Beer lovers have a choice of more than 50 varieties of German-style beers and craft beers from local Utah breweries including Moab Brewery, Bohemian, Uinta and Squatters. Whether you’re knocking back a golden German lager or an American pale ale, you’ll be unable to resist a side of schnitzel or bratwurst topped with sauerkraut, and a delicious Bavarian apple strudel! Aside from the Oktoberfest Halle there are multiple beer/wine stations and restaurant vendors, or head to the outdoor patio at The Forklift for a cocktail. Local Tip: Buy an Oktoberfest beer mug to start your collection (and get a discount on drinks when you return next year!)
Family Friendly Activities: Snowbird Oktoberfest welcomes all ages and is geared for family fun! There are art and craft vendors, and daily festivities with beard & mustache competitions, bratwurst eating competitions, yodeling and polka contests, bean bag tossing, and fun summer resort activities at Snowbird Resort. Summer activities include a free-fall mountain coaster, the ZipWhipper pendulum swing, an alpine slide, ropes courses, climbing walls, kids inflatables, bungee trampolines, and the iconic Snowbird Tram to the summit of Hidden Peak.
Live Music & Entertainment: The live music and entertainment at Snowbird Oktoberfest is non-stop! There’s traditional German music and dancing in the Oktoberfest Halle daily with polka dancing, waltzes and the famous Oktoberfest chicken dance – or head to the lawn under the Chickadee Chairlift for live music by local artists throughout the festival. Every trip to Snowbird requires a scenic ride on the Snowbird Tram and the Swiss Alphorns perform daily at Snowbird Summit on Hidden Peak, North America’s highest year-round lodge with 360-degree panoramic views of the Wasatch Mountains.
Important Snowbird Oktoberfest 2024 Information!
Getting to Snowbird Oktoberfest: Getting to Snowbird Resort is easy! Alta Resort and Snowbird Resort are situated only 28 miles from Salt Lake City. Take a short, scenic drive along Highway 210 up the Little Cottonwood Canyon or plan your airport transportation from Salt Lake City International Airport to the Alta-Snowbird resort areas.
Parking at Snowbird Oktoberfest: Limited festival parking is available in Snowbird parking lots accessed via entry 1, 2 and 4 only, with a parking fee of $12 per car. Parking entry 3 is not open for festival parking.
Food & Drink Policy: Traditional German, American, and kid-friendly food and drink is available at Oktoberfest. Outside food and drinks may not be brought inside the festival gates.
Pet Policy: The Cottonwood Canyons are protected watershed areas for the Salt Lake Valley and, as much as we love your furry family members, pets are not allowed in the Little Cottonwood or Big Cottonwood Canyon.
